\body
Dear Professor Bateman:
I assume that my statement of AMM Problem P1749 has been edited to remove
putatively ``politically incorrect'' humor. In the process, it has lost
my notion of what was humorous about it, as well as anthropological
verisimilitude. The modification of verb tenses is probably helpful to
the reader, but I hope you will either restore my Bronze Age hunter-gatherer
society with a modern bureaucracy, or indicate that the problem has been
edited. You could say ``to fit the space'' if you like. My opinion is
that the original gave no one cause to be offended. As for the humor in it:
``A poor thing, but my own''.

Robert W. Floyd
